WAMC Northeast Public Radio, based in Albany, New York, boasts a coverage area like that of very few other public radio stations. Our signal reaches into portions of seven New York and New England states, and as far north as Montreal, Canada. We have many online visitors as well who tune in to hear our live broadcast stream at www.wamc.org.
In 1996, WAMC purchased an historic bank building and, after a successful capital campaign, renovated it into a state-of-the-art, flexible performance space, The Linda - WAMC's Performing Arts Studio. We opened the doors of the The Linda with a commitment not only to live music, but to re-broadcasting our concerts to our entire listening area. We were privileged to present Branford Marsalis and his trio among our very first guests. A performance at The Linda offers an opportunity to perform in an intimate sitting before a live audience, and at the same time, be heard by thousands of devoted radio listeners. There are very few radio stations with this kind of power and willingness to promote the types of music rarely promoted on commercial radio these days.
Depending on the configuration, the venue can seat between 200 and 230. All performances are recorded for later re-broadcast.
OUR AUDIENCE:
Most listeners fall into the category of between 25-54, but many of our concerts have attracted a younger population that are now new listeners to WAMC by presenting alternative and upcoming artists with a following in our region. The median household income exceeds $74,000, more than $13,500 above the national median. Our listeners and concert goers tend to be achievers with 58% of listeners having college degrees. That means they can attend the concerts, listen online or at home or in their cars, and are interested in purchasing your products or CD's.
