ASBURY SHORTS THE “NEW YORK SHORT FILM CONCERT”
Saturday, Sep 15, 2012 - 8:00 pm, $10.00
The "New York Short Film Concert" returns to The Linda Performing Arts Studio in Albany with the world's best short films. A amazing evening of international festival award-winning short films from the past and present.
"The NY Short Film Concert" features the best in live action comedy, drama and outstanding animation, without promoting competition. Four-time Academy Award nominated Director Jason Reitman ("Juno," "Up in the Air", "Thank You for Smoking," and "Young Adult") calls Asbury Shorts: "The Best Short Film Show I've ever seen!" Screening classic shorts, combined with new international festival winners, ASNY provides a rare opportunity for the public to see world-class films on the big screen, in a theatrical setting, instead of an iPod or computer. The evening is fast-paced & hilarious. International highlights include:
-"The Lost Thing," 2011 Oscar Winner for Best Animated Short Film from Australian directors Andrew Ruhemann and Shaun Tanand. A boy discovers a strange creature on a beach and decides to find a home for it in a world where everyone believes there are far more important things to pay attention to.
-"Bye Bye Now" - The highly regarded and surprisingly amusing documentary from Ireland that has charmed audiences around the world. Filmmakers Aideen O'Sullivan and Ross Whitaker share a poignant look at the gradual disappearance of beloved village phone booths across Ireland due to the rise of modern technology.
Also featured in the 2-hour program will be an acclaimed local production: "Her Telling Heart," directed by Capital District based filmmaker Eli Meissner. Ms. Meissner puts a feminist and socially conscious perspective on Edgar Allan Poe's timeless chiller, The Tell-Tale Heart. The short recently had an official screening at the New York Women in Film & Television's Summer Shorts Program and was a first place winner in the category of "Best Performance and Experimental" at the Park City Music Festival in Park City, Utah.
Asbury Shorts has presented the "Shorts Concerts" at: The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Royal Festival Hall, London, The Lake Shore Theater, Chicago, Director's Guild Theater in Manhattan, SUMMER STAGE in Central Park, the AERO Theatre in Santa Monica and the Leminske Theater in Berlin, to name a few of the prestigious venues where the world's best shorts have entertained audiences.
