The Guggenheim Grotto Website

With special guest M.R. Poulopoulos

Following a year consumed by writing and recording new songs for their upcoming album, Dublin alt-folk duo The Guggenheim Grotto will return to the road playing headlining dates along the East Coast and into the Midwest. Two time alums of The Linda Guggenheim shows have always been passion filled. There unique sound and superb harmonies have made them an indie /folk favorite. The band continues to promote the release of its third album, The Universe Is Laughing, but will be showcasing plenty of new material as well.

The Guggenheim Grotto emerged in 2005 to critical acclaim in Ireland with its debut album ...Waltzing Alone when the first single "Told You So" reached No. 12 on the Irish National Airplay Charts. Later, the band found success abroad much in part to early champions like David Dye at WXPN in Philadelphia, XM Radio's "The Loft" and Nic Harcourt at KCRW in Los Angeles. Both previous releases have made it to No. 1 on the iTunes Folk Chart and seen placements in major primetime TV programs like Brothers and Sisters and One Tree Hill. The band's sophomore record, 2009's Happy The Man, saw the band tour with They Might Be Giants and Ani DiFranco, and received tremendous support from Triple A radio, warm embraces at press, and a YouTube featured video for the first single, "Her Beautiful Ideas," that garnered over 300,000 views in just a few days. See video below.

M.R. Poulopoulos

By turns intelligent, soulful, melodic and melancholy, acoustic singer-songwriter M.R. Poulopoulos is one of New York's Capital Region's most honest and eloquent artists. His wide-ranging influences share a common foundation in American blues and roots music, but his sound is very much his own. Poulopoulos' first solo album, Greenhorn, was released in 2011 to critical acclaim, and his 2013 follow-up, Harvest the Heart, expanded his sound as well as his fan base. He has also worked as part of the acoustic duo Palatypus.

The Latest News

Fri, Jan 17, 2014 - LIVE: Guy Davis @ WAMC-FM’s The Linda, 1/17/14

Guy Davis prefaced his lightning-fast opening number at The Linda by saying, "I've stolen so much, this song doesn't even have a title!" And even if he hadn't name-checked Charlie Patton and Blind Willie McTell after it was all over, the SRO crowd could easily hear about 100 years of the blues coursing through Davis' acoustic 12-string guitar, right down to the off-time beat that recalled Robert Johnson's original version of "Crossroads." But as Davis says he tells his students, "It's okay to steal music - but once you steal it, you have to earn it!" Read More

Sun, Oct 6, 2013 - LIVE: Syd Straw at WAMC-FM’s Performing Arts Studio

ALBANY - It's been more than 20 years since singer-songwriter Syd Straw graced an Albany stage, but those shows at the now long-defunct QE2 still burn brightly in the memories of more than a few who were there back then. Read More
