THE 32ND ASBURY SHORT FILM CONCERT
Saturday, Sep 21, 2013 - 8:00 pm, $10.00

Asbury Short's Website

With special guest host Scott Cohen

Back for its third year at The Linda Asbury Shorts, New York City's longest running short film exhibition, presents its acclaimed national touring "Short Film Concert" . This fast-paced and highly entertaining program will include Oscar Winners, US film festival "Best of Show" winners and international honorees blasted on to the big screen at The Linda.

Asbury Shorts "Concerts" feature the best in live action comedy, drama and outstanding animation, without promoting competition. Academy Award nominated Director Jason Reitman ("Juno," "Up in the Air", "Thank You for Smoking," "Young Adult") calls Asbury Shorts: "The Best Short Film Show I've ever seen!" Combining classic shorts with new international festival selections, ASNY provides a rare opportunity for the public to see world-class films on the big screen, instead of an iPod or computer. Highlights of the 2-hour presentation include:

ASAD - From world-renowned TV commercial director Bryan Buckley, this is the remarkable coming of age story about a young Somali boy living precariously day-to-day in his war torn country. It was nominated for a 2013 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film and is a five-time festival winner, including Best Short Film at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival and the Audience Awarded Best Short Film at the 2012 The Los Angeles Film Festival.

Time Freak - This smart comedy is about a man who invents a time machine whose sole purpose is to correct a communication problem at his local laundry. The story behind the making of the film is as wonderful as is that of the short itself. Newly married Andrew Bowler (director) and Gigi Causey (producer) used their $25,000 nest egg to complete the production. After initial rejection by Sundance and many other major festivals, it received a 2012 Oscar nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences... talk about a happy ending!

Asbury Shorts NY has presented the shorts concerts at: The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Royal Festival Hall, London, The Lake Shore Theater, Chicago, Director's Guild Theater in Manhattan, SUMMER STAGE in Central Park, the AERO Theatre in Santa Monica and the Leminske Theater in Berlin, to name a few of the prestigious venues where the world's best shorts have entertained audiences.

The Latest News

Fri, Jan 17, 2014 - LIVE: Guy Davis @ WAMC-FM’s The Linda, 1/17/14

Guy Davis prefaced his lightning-fast opening number at The Linda by saying, "I've stolen so much, this song doesn't even have a title!" And even if he hadn't name-checked Charlie Patton and Blind Willie McTell after it was all over, the SRO crowd could easily hear about 100 years of the blues coursing through Davis' acoustic 12-string guitar, right down to the off-time beat that recalled Robert Johnson's original version of "Crossroads." But as Davis says he tells his students, "It's okay to steal music - but once you steal it, you have to earn it!" Read More

Sun, Oct 6, 2013 - LIVE: Syd Straw at WAMC-FM’s Performing Arts Studio

ALBANY - It's been more than 20 years since singer-songwriter Syd Straw graced an Albany stage, but those shows at the now long-defunct QE2 still burn brightly in the memories of more than a few who were there back then. Read More
