ALBANY POETS PRESENTS
Saturday, Jan 18, 2014 - 8:00 pm, $10.00

Albany Poets' website

Albany Poets is kicking off the new year at The Linda with a special performance highlighting some of the best poets and spoken word artists in the area. Poets that have been on the national stage from Nitty Gritty Slam will be joined by local poets who have worked hard over the years and laid the groundwork for the vibrant community of writers that we have here in upstate New York.

Albany Poets will also be launching it's brand new issue of Up The River, the quarterly journal of poetry, photography, and art.

Join us as we celebrate our community and help kick off what is going to be a very exciting 2014.

Albany Poets is a local organization whose goal is to promote the poets and poetry of Upstate New York. Albany Poets hosts open mics, poetry readings, slams, music and spoken word events, and the annual Albany Word Fest to increase participation and attendance in the local arts community. Albany Poets' website, www.albanypoets.com, is the most comprehensive resource in Northeast for news and events listings for poetry and spoken word. The organization's mission is to give everyone the platform to share their poetry with the world. Whether it is at an open mic, on a website, or in print, Albany Poets strives to integrate poetry and spoken word into the Capital Region.

Guy Davis prefaced his lightning-fast opening number at The Linda by saying, "I've stolen so much, this song doesn't even have a title!" But as Davis says he tells his students, "It's okay to steal music - but once you steal it, you have to earn it!" Read More

Sun, Oct 6, 2013 - LIVE: Syd Straw at WAMC-FM’s Performing Arts Studio

ALBANY - It's been more than 20 years since singer-songwriter Syd Straw graced an Albany stage, but those shows at the now long-defunct QE2 still burn brightly in the memories of more than a few who were there back then. Read More
