Pishadoo About the film
Cousins Marco Ricci and Michael Canzoniero's award-winning short film "Pishadoo" is the comedic story of a young man who struggles to learn the family business. (The term "Pishadoo" is Italian/American slang for a "botched haircut.") Set in a Bronx barbershop, the film stars Nicholas DeCegli, Catherine Narducci, Ray Iannicelli and features the debut performance of young actor Matthew Bonifacio. The film was the winner of the 1997 Princess Grace Award in Monaco, given for the best short student film in the U.S.A. [22 min.]

Filmmaker Bios

Michael Canzoniero
A graduate of New York University's Film Program, Mr. Canzoniero’s other credits include the award winning short film "HYPER." Shot for a budget of under five hundred dollars, this six minute project has gone on to several of the nation's top film festivals including the New York, Seattle and San Francisco Film Festivals. Mr. Canzoniero has also been honored by the N.Y.C. Council on the Arts and the National Italian-American Foundation for his work in promoting new cinematic images of the Italian-American experience.

Marco Ricci
A graduate of Northwestern University, Mr. Ricci was a recipient of the Kodak Gold Award for his film “Chicago Minutes.” In 2000, his feature script, "The Rhapsody of Mink Keller" (co-written with Mr. Canzoniero), was a finalist at the Sundance Screenwriters Workshop. In addition Mr. Ricci founded the Italian American Short Film Night, a celebration of non-stereotypical portrayals of the Italian American experience. He is currently in pre-production for his first feature film, “The Marconi Bros,” slated for production in 2003.

Tony Grocki
Tony Grocki has worked for 16 years on the editing teams of many important films. These include films for Jim Jarmusch (Night on Earth, Dead Man, Ghost Dog), Paul Schrader (Affliction, Forever Mine), and Abel Ferrara (The Funeral, The Blackout).

Upstate Independents, a salon of the Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers, is a network of over 130 Capital Region independent filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, and media artists. Meetings are open to the public, and both amateurs and professionals are welcome.
