INDEPENDENT FILM ON THE AIR!
Thorn Grass by D. Robin Hammer Thorn Grass by D. Robin Hammer

About the film

Thorn Grass is a transformative meditation on the life and the untimely death of a Transgendered or "Two-Spirited" youth, which hopes to honor his spirit, and his courage to live authentically.

The film is based on the life and the brutal murder of 16 year old Fred C. Martinez, Jr., who was killed in a hate crime in Cortez, Colorado in June, 2001.

Fred was a Navaho (Dine) two-spirited young man who had discovered his dual-gender identity at an early age, and lived it honestly in his public expression. Thorn Grass attempts to honor him as an individual and to speak in a healing and reparative way about what is underlying and universal in personal identity.
